AgriStride Vario slats improving cow comfort in North Yorkshire
At Long Bank Farm in Clapham, North Yorkshire, Colin Price’s herd of 40 pedigree Holsteins are benefitting from Wolfenden’s new flooring solution for herd housing.
Problem
Colin was looking to replace ageing flooring channels in the main cow shed to improve slurry management, hoof health, and cow comfort. Having followed AgriStride's reputation for innovation and animal welfare for some time, he visited the Great Yorkshire Show to see our latest products in action. The goal was to find a flooring solution that would not only improve daily herd movement but also help meet environmental targets by reducing emissions.
Solution
We delivered a flooring upgrade designed for both structural strength and animal welfare.
- Engineered with our unique Fortis reinforcement system, the Supa strong diagonal slats ensure rapid slurry passage to reduce pooling, improving hoof health and lowering ammonia emissions.
- A world-first in hybrid flooring, AgriStride Vario slats combine 50% rubber and 50% concrete for exceptional comfort, grip, and natural movement. The high drainage capacity in the rubber inserts keeps floors drier and cleaner, cutting surface-level ammonia emissions by up to 60%.
Following installation, Colin saw an immediate difference:
“The new flooring is working really well. The cows are comfortable, and are walking confidently. Ideally, I’d have liked to use the Vario slats along the whole length of the passageway – it’s a great product. Without grant funding, it’s just not feasible at the moment, but I’m very happy that we’ve integrated it where we can.” Both the Supa Slats and the Agri-Stride range are multi-award-winning products, with the Agri-Stride Vario winning the Engineering Innovation Award at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, before going on to be named overall winner.
This project highlights how AgriStride flooring not only transforms cow comfort and movement but also supports sustainable slurry management, helping farmers meet both welfare and environmental goals.
